Meet Dr. Hayward, OD

Jacob Hayward

A native Iowan, Dr. Hayward spent the majority of his life in Maquoketa, Iowa. He received his undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Iowa. Jacob then went on to complete his Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree at the University of Missouri-St.Louis. He completed rotations at Cochran VA Medical Center as well as multiple sites throughout the St. Louis metro area.

While in St. Louis for optometry school, Dr. Hayward met and married his best friend, Caitlin. Their family has expanded to include 3 energetic toddlers: Miles, Merrick, and Gemma.

With a passion for increasing patient access to eye care, Dr. Jacob Hayward supports the Iowa Optometric Association (IOA) as well as the American Optometric Association (AOA). Their family currently resides in DeWitt, IA, and has a heart for a variety of local (Cornerstone Baptist Church, DeWitt Referral Center) and national (Mission to Haiti, International Justice Mission, Bethany Christian Services) organizations that serve families through education, resources, and justice.

Meet Dr. Benson, OD

Dr. Benson

Dr. Benson and his wife Susan have been a part of the DeWitt community for almost 30 years. Upon graduating from the University of Missouri St. Louis with his Doctor of Optometry (30 years ago), they settled in Independence Iowa for a year and then found their way to DeWitt where they started their business, Vision Center of DeWitt, and raised their family. They have two grown children, Amanda, her husband Nathan and son Weston who live in Dubuque, and Emily who lives in Lone Tree, Colorado with her husband Tyler.

Dr. Benson has been a supportive member of the American Optometric Association, as well as the Iowa Optometric Associate for 30 years. He has been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus along with other community organizations.

Eye care has been a passion and fascination for Dr. Benson since his high school days. He has always found the eye, eyecare and overall health of his patients to be of utmost importance and always a priority. He enjoys being able to help his patients by listening to their concerns and needs and working toward a solution. Dr. Benson looks forward to many more years of helping his patients.

In his spare time Dr. Benson enjoys all sorts of puzzles, traveling and spending time with his family, friends, and dog Sammy.
